Creek announces retirement from baseball
Red Baron® pizza makers to sponsor Creek in pro-fishing series
NEW PORT RICHEY, FL - February 22, 2006 - After
completing 15 years of professional baseball, nine of which were
spent with seven different major league teams, Doug Creek has
decided to trade in his pitching spikes for a fishing pole. The
decision to retire came slowly this winter as one team after another
decided to “go younger.”
For Doug, at 37 years old, baseball is a part of life, but certainly
not all that he wants to accomplish. He has always been an
outdoorsman and has dreamed of being a fishing guide and competing
professionally in tournaments. Doug is an accomplished fisherman and
US Coast Guard licensed captain. In addition to starting the fishing
charter business, Doug is being professionally sponsored by the
makers of RED BARON® pizza in the FLW Redfish Tour and Professional
Tarpon Tournament Series. He is soon to be a member of the Ranger
Boat Pro Staff.
Doug plans to stay in the game by giving private lessons and doing
clinics with young pitchers. He also plans to return to Georgia Tech
in the fall to complete his degree in management. Doug is setting
his sights on coaching at the collegiate level some time down the
road.
During his professional baseball career, Doug has played
Professional Winter Baseball in Venezuela, spent a year in Japan
with the Hanshin Tigers, and was a proud member of Team USA in 1987
& 1989. Doug Creek is the All Time Wins Leader at Georgia Tech and
is a member of the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame.
